EPK/UPK Pre-K Classes
At Northminster Early Childhood Center, our Pre-Kindergarten program provides a rich, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning experience designed to prepare students for success in Kindergarten and beyond.
We utilize a blend of research-based curricula to support the development of strong early literacy, mathematics, and social-emotional skills:
-
Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA)
-
Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum
-
Second Step: Social-Emotional Skills for Early Learning
Our literacy instruction follows a sound-first approach, helping children build essential phonemic awareness and pre-reading skills. Through phonics-based activities during Center Time and literacy-integrated art projects, students develop strong language foundations in a fun, interactive setting.
Mathematics
Our math curriculum varies by location to align with district expectations and enhance readiness:
-
North Syracuse (CNS) students use Eureka Math, which builds deep conceptual understanding through hands-on problem-solving and number sense.
-
Liverpool students use EngageNY Math, which emphasizes structured numeracy, early computation, and foundational math reasoning.
Both approaches introduce key concepts such as ten frames, number bonds, and counting by 5s and 10s, helping students build confidence and fluency in early math.
Daily Outdoor Play
Students go outside twice a day for 30 minutes, regardless of the season including winter. Outdoor time is an essential part of our day, supporting gross motor development, socialization, and exploration of the natural world.
Music & Special Events
Each class enjoys a weekly music session led by our music instructor, incorporating singing, rhythm instruments, movement, and creative expression. Students also participate in special events and celebrations throughout the school year, creating lasting memories and strengthening our sense of community.
